Font Notes:
Described in the Catálogo Monumental de Navarra (1990?- , vol. II**: 98): baptismal font consisting of a hemispherical basin and a pedestal base, both decorated with ribbed pattern; it is identified as the work of the stone-mason Francisco Vergerandi and dated 1675 [the CMdeN cites the Archivo Parroquial of Iturgoyen's "Libro de cuentas desde 1545", fol. 159, as source] [NB: the inside of the well has, at a later date, been altered: it has been filled with concrete with only about half of the well now left, the rest made into a shelf to accommodate the tools of baptism]. The CMdeN does not mention the interesting wooden cover on this font: a tall octagonal wooden cover not common in Navarre [two others recorded in this area at Olejua and Ugar]: the rim-buffet type with front panels open to give access to the basin well; it appears modern. [We are grateful to Javier Torrens, of Pamplona, Spain, for the photographs of this font]
