Cabredo

Described and illustrated in the Catálogo Monumental de Navarra (1990?- , vol. II*: 384 and pl. 409): baptismal font of the 16th century; the basin is roughly bucket-shaped, with a moulding at the upper rim; the sides have diagonal ribbed ornamentation, with columns of ball, lozenge, geometric and other motif in between the ribs, a rather original design not often seen in this area. the base is a series of volumes alternating the round with the square: the upper volume is cylindrical and plain except for a row of saw-toot or rope motif all araund the top [theis part is worn and not clear what the motif was originally]; next down is a thin square form, followed down by an equally narrow round form; then is a square form followed by a cylindrical form; the whole is raised on a round plinth. A very strange combination, probably not all of it as was intended originally.
