Font Notes:
Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM53001034]: "Bénitiers en marbre de Montroux (Argentré) [...] 4e quart 17e siècle [...] Besson Jacques (sculpteur); Lorier Julien (sculpteur)". Described and illustrated in Le patrimoine des communes de la Mayenne (2002, v. 2: 589): one of two identical holy-water stoups dated to 1699, the work of local "lavallois" sculptors Julien Lorier and Jacques Besron. The shallow basins have a roughly hemispherical shape and are ornamented with a torus-scotia at the upper side, and with high-relief ribbed pattern on the sides and underbowl; the base is a square pedestal of the baluster type. [cf. Index entry for Laval No. 2 for the other stoup in this church] [Flohic ref. no. 53170327]. [NB: we have no information on the font here or whether or not there was a font at the former parish church dedicated to Saint-Melaine]
