Country Name: Spain
Location: Huesca, Aragón
Directions to Site: Located on the A1205, about 35 km SSW of Jaca
Font Location in Church: Inside the church, in the presbitery
Century and Period: 12th - 13th century, Romanesque
Font Notes:
Quadrangular baptismal font of the Romanesque period from the old church of the same period. The rectangular basin is plain and there is damage to the rim on one of the upper corners; there are two holes at opposite sides in the upper rim, where the staples of the original cover had been; the lower end of the basin is chamfered; the basin appears to have had its central drain cemented. Short cylindrical stem raised on a lower base of two volumes, very common in Aragon and Navarra: the upper is round, with ball motif at 90-decree angles, coinciding with the angles of the lower volume which is square. The whole is raised on a rectangular plinth. The present priest, mosen Benito Solana, had the font moved from the NW side to the presbitery where it is now used as the base of the altar [We are grateful to Antonio García-Omedes, www.romanicoaragones.com, for the information on and image of this font -- more information on the church and its contents can be found in the above web site]
