Noted and illustrated in Ruprich-Robert (1855), who notes that the base of this 15th-century font had been destroyed, and argues that the back [where the counterweight of the cover is now anchored] suggests it was originally intended to stand against a wall. Octagonal baptismal font, probably of the 15th century, the time of a major renovation of this church; the basin has vertical sides and the panels that ornament them are uneven, two of them -at least- narrower than the others, but all have pointed arches with trefoiled atch-heads inside. The underbowl is chamfered and plain, as are the stem of the base and the lower base. all of them octagonal, but only the basin is original. The font is covered with a modern wooden cover in the shape of a low pyramid; the raising mechanism for the cover is a metal counterweight frame pivoted at the back of the font. The cover may date ca. 1958, when the font was restored, but the old basin has earlier metal staples from an earlier cover in the upper rim. According to Topic-Topos [http://fr.topic-topos.com/cuve-baptismale-saint-brieuc] [accessed 4 March 2013], it was used as a holy-water stoup in the 19th century, and returned as a baptismal font in 1958.
