Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Le patrimoine des communes de la Mayenne (2002, v. 1: 214): baptismal font of the double-basin type dated by an inscription to 1467; the outer shape is mainly rectangular, which corresponds to the primary basin, with a cylindrical constructional attachment that constitutes the small secondary basin. The side of the main basin bears an inscription dating the font to 1467 and naming one "Mathurin le Potier", probably the donor [cf. Index entry for Chemazé No. 1 for a baptismal font donated by "Mathurin Levesque" and dated to 1456]. The top volume of the font, that which corresponds to the two basins appears to be one block; the mase, which, though somewhat indented, corresponds to the same outline as the top, is made of several blocks. The material appears to be marble or a very polished grey-whitish limestone. [Flohic ref. no. 53060409]
