Sesma No. 1

Described in the Catálogo Monumental de Navarra (1990?- , vol. II**: 480) as one of two holy-water stoups of the late 17th century, in the Baroque style, located at either side of the 14th-century door. They consist of a quatrefoil basin decorated with cherubs and doves and raised on a base of putti (?) in the atlante position alternating with masks [mascaron] surrounded by fruit motifs. The original church dates to the 13th century and, as Domeño (1992: 111) indicates, a medieval baptismal font must have existed but there is no trace of it now. [NB: the CMdeN (ibid., p. 485) describes a baptismal font of the 19th century made of jasper -- it is not included in this Index on account of the late date] [cf.
