Described in the caption of its illustration in Espacio y tiempo... (2001) as a Franciscan baptismal font of the 16th century [="Pila bautismal franciscana del siglo XVI"], although the object is probably a holy-water stoup to judge by its shape and size: it appears monolithic and roughly cylindrical in general shape, divided into three parts by two protruding mouldings imitating the Franciscan rope cingulum; the upper part, the basin, is ornamented with four large shields at 90-degree angles, each with a motif in it [unidentified, though probably related to the order]; the upper rim has been carved as a rope motif but is not as prominent as the two mouldings below; these are parallel; the space between them showing an inscription incised in large letters [SDEB?]; the lower third of the object, the base, splays out slightly and is decorated with foliage (?) all around. This stoup (?) is very much in the "tequitqui" style and of an appearance seen in other Mexican fonts of this period [cf. Index entries for Acatzingo, etc.], though not identical.
