Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in the Catálogo Monumental de Navarra (1990?- ). In Domeño (1992): Romanesque baptismal font; roughly hemispherical basin ornamented with a row of ball motif at the upper basin side; lower down a combination of vertical and horizontal mouldings make up sketchy human figures, a motif common to several fonts of this area; at the lower side of the basin another row of ball motif; conical base decorated with a roll moulding around the upper half and a row of ball motif around the lower half; plain circular plinth. A plain flat wooden lid is visible in the Archivo Uranga image of ca. 1943 The Enciclopedia del románico en Navarra (2008) notes a number of Romanesque basins of similar shape in Adoain, Aristu, Elcoaz, Jacoisti, Ayechu, Ongoz. Irurozqui, Arangozqui and Zabalza, in the same valley, and Azparren, Equiza, Uli Alto, Meoz and Igal in nearby areas. [NB: the CMdeN (ibid., p. 125) mentions a plain basin found in the Ermita de Santa Colomba but no date or other particulars are supplied -- not listed in this Index]. Noted in Plazaola Artola (2008?). As noted above, the font has undergone a thorough cleaning since 1943, and the plinth has been replaced [see the B&W photograph from the Archivo Uranga]. The new stone block added since at the bottom is modern. At the time of the cleaning of the font, which took place during the restoration of the church itself, the font was moved from its earlier [and probably original] location at the west end of the nave, beneath the gallery, to the east end, where it now [May 2014] stands.
