There is an entry for Halberton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/ST0012/halberton/] [accessed 2 June 2025]; it mentions neither church nor priest in it. Baptismal font of the Norman period noted in Stabb (1908). Clarke (1920) mentions that this baptismal font is made of freestone and that "in form it is very similar to Molland, but has been more restored. The bowl has on each side three cones separarted by darts; an incised line marks the depth of the bowl; below it the cones recede slightly. A half-round moulding forms a necking; the thick cylindrical shaft has a circular base, a shallow slope, 4 inches wide, on a square plinth, which is placed on a lower plinth; the whole is raised on a modern platform of limestone, which is extended on the north side to form a step. About 15 inches of the base and the adjoining south-east corner of the plinth show disintegration of the stone. The eastern face of the plinth bears traces of incised diamond pattern; the western side has a strip of stone about 2 inches wide, joined in along the whole length. The bowl is patched on both eastern and western faces; the eastern patch is 11 x 4 x 2 inches, the western 7 x 2 1/2 inches. The bowl is not lined; there is a square of cement round the drain-hole." The flat cover appears modern. Noted in Pevsner (1952): "Font. Plain, square, Norman, with the bowl on three scallops on each side." The entry for this church in Historic England [NGR: ST0056812892] notes: "Largely C15 although the chancel probably incorporates earlier fabric, and the font is Norman [...] Norman scalloped bowl font, 3 cones to each side with intersection dart; roll moulding to neck; cylindrical shaft; circular base. C19 plinth."
