Church Notes: a church dedicated to "Saint Jean" is documented in Lacenas in a 969-970 charter recording a donation of three churches to Cluny, one being Lacenas; 12thC church listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA00117774]: "Eglise (ancienne) du hameau Saint-Paul, y compris les peintures murales [...] 2e moitié 12e siècle ; 16e siècle"
Baptismal of the 12th-13th century listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: PM69000211]: "fonts baptismaux [...] 12e siècle (?) [...] [cuve circulaire sculptée de colonnettes aux chapiteaux feuillagés ou figurés, reliées par une corde sculptée, pierre taillée] [...] Oeuvre consolidée par Mainponte en 1980." The basin is roughly bucket-shaped, but with a series of patterned mouldings and buttresses all around; the four buttresses, set at 90-degree angles have quadrangular tops decorated with human heads or floral motifs; the horizontal mouldings are rope patterned, while the vertical pipings are plain; the base is a plain cylindrical pedestal and stands on a round-to-square lower base, also plain. There is no font cover present in our source images, but a large metal staple on the upper rim bears witness to a disappeared font cover.
