Font Notes:
The cauldron-type (hemispherical unmounted) baptismal font at Perelada is very common in this area of the Pyrenees, both in Spain and France; examples such as Ur, Castellò d'Empuries, etc. all share a common basin design, each then adding a different program of ornamentation [or, in the case of Castellò, a double basin]. This font has two inscriptions, one at the upper basin side, the other on the side, lower down, both running in capitals between horizontal parallel incised lines; a third set of lines is located around the underbowl but it does not include an inscription. The second inscription includes the name of the maker of the font 'Johannes' [Joan of Jonquera?] as well as other text, but no date. Two iron staples from the old cover are still evident in the upper rim. The font is fair shape, but there are spots of damage affecting the text of the inscription as well as a purposefully-made vertical groove at the upper basin side, also affecting the text of the inscription. Noted in Badia-Homs (2007).
