Described as a baptismal font made of glazed ceramic by Giovanni della Robbia [source: http://www.firenze.turismo.toscana.it/apt/itinerari/chianticassia.html and www.florence-concierge.it]. The Italian Wikipedia entry for this church [https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pieve_di_San_Donato_in_Poggio] [accessed 29 May 2025] notes: "nel 1927 è stato realizzato il battistero è collocato il fonte battesimale attribuito a Giovanni Della Robbia (1513)". The entry for this church in Del Giglio [https://www.delgiglio.it/en/san-donato-history/] [accessed 29 May 2025] has a partial illustration of the font and notes: "The church [...] conserves still the baptismal source [sic] in glazed terracotta, from Giovanni Della Robbia (1469-1529)". Illustrated in I Borghi Piu' Belli d'Italia [https://museovirtuale.borghipiubelliditalia.it/opera/fonte-battesimale/] [accessed 29 May 2025]. The font is a raised hexagonal tank decorated with a scene on each side [of which we can identify only the Annunciatio and the Baptism of Christ at this time]; the separating pillars are profusely decorated with animals, garlands, etc., as well of at least one inscription [NB: text not available at this time]; the lower sides of the basin are also profusely decorated with ball-in-socket patterns, human demi-figures, floral and foliages motifs. The font cover appears round, flat and modern. The entry for this church in [http://web.tiscali.it/tavarnelle/amicidellamusica/sandonato.htm] [accessed 29 May 2025] reports that the font that the scene of the Decapitation of St. John the Baptist, one of several depicting his life cycle on this font, is now missing: "il fonte battesimale in terracotta invetriata eseguito dalla bottega di Giovanni della Robbia, originariamente in forma esagonale e mancante oggi della formella con la Decollazione del Battista, a conclusione del ciclo con le storie della sua vita".
