Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Catalunya romànica (1984- , vol. XXII: 68): baptismal font of the second half of the 12th century; the basin is hemispherical with extended vertical sides and is mounted on a very short cylindrical base which appears to be one part with the basin; ornamentation consists on two rope mouldings, one at the upper side of the basin, a few inches from the rim, the other at the meeting point of the base and underbowl; the part of the basin above the upper rope moulding has been reduced so its diameter is somewhat smaller than right below the motif; a ziz-zag motif is incised on the horizontal surface of the upper rim. This same Museum has a similar font [MEV 10 752] [cf. Index entry for Vich No. 2 for the other similar font in this museum] [NB: Bilbao (1996: 68 fn2) makes a reference to a baptismal font ornamented with rope motif, 'originally from Puigpardinas, now in the Museo Episcopal in Vich' [our translation]. That reference is incorrect: the Puigpardines/Puigpardinas font is in the town of the same name, in situ at the church -- cf. Index entry for Puigpardinas]
