Font Notes:
Plain bucket-shaped baptismal font probably of the Romanesque period; it is mounted on short cylindrical base, also plain and a low square plinth [NB: the basin and round base appear to be one piece]. One of the iron staples of the old cover -on the right- is still in the upper rim; the other -on the left- has been removed and the rim has suffered damage as a result. The entry for this church in the Enciclopedia del románico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/palencia_AREÑOS.pdf] [accessed 24 May 2025] does not mention the baptismal font, but it notes that the pedestal base of the holy-water stoup is a re-cycled pillar of the original 12th-13th century church; it is decorated with a torsade pattern all around: "un tambor de fuste con estriado helicoidal, reutilizado como tenante de la pila aguabenditera."
