Described as a cylindrical baptismal basin excavated in a bed of conglomerate stone ["scavata in un masso di puddinga"]; it is believed to be the baptismal font from the primitive church in this site [source: web site of the Associazione Cultural Varzi Viva, www.varziviva.net]. The Visit Pavia web site [https://www.visitpavia.com/en/tourism-in-lombardy/oltrepo-pavese/san-ponzo-semola] [accessed 23 May 2025] mentions "an important stone baptismal font dating back to 1161" in the church [NB: not able to sort out the issue at this time; are there two fonts here, then? one Early-Christian and one Romanesque? -- to be resolved]
