Listed in Cobreros (1993) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. A baptismal font originally from San Millán de Yécora is reported in a Calahorra church; the font is referred to as Romanesque and unique in its kind, but the illustration in that source shows a much later font, lobulated (eight lobes) in shape and heavily ornamented, which is obviously the font at the Catedral de Calahorra [source: Diego Esquide Eizaga in 'Apuntes historicos de la Rioja', www.iespana.es/heraldicariojana/pilacalahorra.gif]. Described and illustrated in Sáenz Rodríguez (2004) who gives its origin as the ex-Iglesia de San Millán Abad, in San Millán de Yécora, from where it was moved to the Iglesia de los Santos Mártires of Calahorra in 1968; the suggested date is the late-13th century. Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en La Rioja (2008). The font consists of an octagonal basin raised on a quadrangular pedestal base; the basin is oddly shaped, with four corners ending in angle colonnettes with capitals (one of them a human head, another a vegetal motif, one broken, one missing), and four others without them; the eight faces between them have three arches or niches each. Sáenz Rodríguez (ibid.) and the Enciclopedia… (ibid.) article dwell extensively on the numeric symbolism of the decoration; it is dated to the 13th century in this source. This same source, in its entry for Pradejon [cf. Index entry] informs that the font from San Miguel, Ollora, was brought to Santos Martires in 1968, and located in an exempt baptistery; it remained until 1994, at which time the Ollora font was moved to Pradejon [there had been a second font in the meantime at Santos Martires, the one from Yecora, which became the font in use at this church in 1994].
