Noted and ilustrated in García Gómez (2007). Noted and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del Románico en Castilla y León (Soria, vol. 1: 214) [www.romanicodigital.com/cedar/pila-bautismal-26375.aspx] [accessed 24 July 2020]. Noted in 'Castillos de Soria' [www.castillosdesoria.com/barca.htm] as one of the best baptismal fonts of the pre-Romanesque period in this province [="una de las mejores pilas bautismales prerrománicas de la provincia"]. Illustrated in www.villabarca.com. The font is a large round tub, the sides decorated in two registers that correspond roughly to basin [upper] and underbowl [lower]; the upper register is divided into several [eight?] panels, several of which are decorated with a large Greek cross in the centre, and four smaller but identical ones, each in one of the four spandrels of the larger cross' arms; one other panel has a set of concentric circles arranged cross-shaped with another set of concentric square to its left; vertical mouldings separate the panels, and a horizontal one marks the separation between basin and underbowl; below this moulding is a number of pipes or ribs around the lower hald of the basin; the font is raised on a circular lower base or plinth. There is no cover present now but the upper rim of the basin shows damage consistent with the earlier presence of metal anchorings for a cover.
