Directions to Site: Located 40-45 km to the E of Cáceres capital
Ecclesiastic Region: Diócesis de Coria-Cáceres
Additional Comments: recycled font / disused font: replaced by a later font
Font Notes:
A large granite basin resting directly on the ground of the west end of the nave, near the main entrance of the church; the object is roughly cylindrical and has a ribbed or double round-arch-like pattern on two of the four 'sides' [NB: the surface of the basin is divided into four sides or areas], the north side showing a large floral motif, and the west side appearing rough or uncarved; on the front side, facing east, is a large 'Cistercian' cross with two ball motifs at its feet; the underbowl appears to have a ribbed pattern of sorts all over, which is likely evidence that this basin was raised on a base of some sort in the past [now missing]. Local legend has it that strong-man Diego García de Paredes picked it up walked it to the entrance and offered holy water to his mother from it [an unlikely event given that the basin must weigh well over a ton]. [cf. Index entry for Trujillo No. 2 for a later font in this church, and for Trujillo Nos. 3, 4, 5, for other objects listed for the church of San Martín in the same town].
