Font Notes:
The entry for Aranda de Duero in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 13 February 2021] notes about this church: "está dedicada a la Asunción de Nuestra Señora. Baptismal font of the 15th century [source: www.fundacionsiglo.org]. Baptismal font in late-Gothic style consisting of a large hemispherical basin raised on a short round base; the basin side is decorated with a band of floral and foliage motifs above a roll moulding, below which is an arcade of trefoiled arches on columns with capitals and bases; the arches are occupied with at least two Agnus Dei and several unidentified human figures; at least one of the spandrels of the arcade has a human head in it; the base has a roll moulding on it. There is no cover present but the font is lined with metal, the outer lip of which wraps about an inch over the rim side. There is no cover present but the rim appears to have anchoring spots for a cover. The location of the baptismal font in this church has been deliberated to and fro for years, according to different local sources in the local press; apparently some favour its present [September 2020] location in the baptistery chapel presided by the Baptism of Christ painting, while others want to see it moved to the presbitery [chancel] area.
