Church Notes: "Capilla del Oidor -- Es uno de los pocos restos que se conservan de la antigua parroquia de Santa María la Mayor. La capilla fue fundada por el "oidor" del rey Juan II, don Pedro Díaz de Toledo, en el siglo XV. Destaca el gran arco de medio punto muy peraltado, con yesería mudéjar. Noted and illustrated in Ordieres-Díez (2005- ). The font consists of a hemispherical basin raised on a round pedestal base and a quadrangular lower base; the sides and underbowl of the basin are decorated with inscribed crosses, triquetra and flower motifs. It is a reconstruction of the original font using the surviving fragments; this is said to be the font in which Miguel de Cervantes was baptised. The Capilla del Oidor was badly damaged, partially destroyed, during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939); only the Torre de Santa Maria and a part of the Capilla survived.
