Font Notes:
Described in Bilbao (1996: 103 fn113) as a baptismal font ornamented in the shape of a flower, somewhat similar to the font at Castrillo de Solarana, in the province of Burgos [cf. Index entry]. Perhaps it would more appropriate to describe the shape and ornamentation of this font as that of an artichoke [NB: the "artichoke" effect of the decoration on this font is very reminiscent of the one at Sos del Rey Católico [cf. Index entry] in nearby Aragón], since the "leaves" or scales are so thick and deeply carved; the basin is however in the general shape of a flower with two levels or rows of petal ornamentation; the inside of the basin well is petterned with conceve ribbing. The basin stands on a short octagonal pedestal and a wide circular plinth. The entry for this church in the Enciclopedia del románico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/Castelló de Farfanya.pdf] [accessed 19 May 2025] mentions no font in it, but describes a holy-water stoup by the entranceway, a round basin decorated with a ribbed pattern, raised on a modern base.
