There are six entries for Layham in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TM0340/layham/] [accessed 20 February 2023], one of which, in the land of Eudo, the steward, reports "1 church. 0.33 church lands" in it. Listed in Cautley (1982) as a hexagonal baptismal font of the 13th century. Described and illustrated in S. Knott [www.suffolkchurches.co.uk] as a hexagonal mounted baptismal font of the 13th century made of Purbeck marble; the hexagonal basin is mounted on a broad central shaft and six non-constructional colonnettes, each at an angle of the basin; the sides appear to be ornamented with a crude arcade or just three vertical mouldings on each side, which, in combination with the horizontal moulding of the upper rim, give the impression of an arcade [NB: ii is difficult to ascertain as the upper area of the basin is very badly worn]; the lower base is identified as Victorian in the source. The entry for this church in Historic England [https://historicengland.org.uk/services-skills/grants/visit/st-andrew-layham-ip7-5lz/] [accessed 20 February 2023] notes: "Parish church dating to late 13th century [...]The font is dated to the 13th century and may have been part of an earlier church on this site." Noted in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble, Polygonal I Type (Hexagonal): no details [source given: Pevsner].
