Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in the Patrimoine des communes... l'Essonne (2002, v. 1: 152) as a holy-water stoup of the 17th century; the basin is roughly hemispherical and shallow, shaped like a sea-shell; the lovely colonnette which serves as the base is ornamented with foliage motif and has a Greek cross towards the bottom on the front side; this stem does seem to fit the basin and may well have been from elsewhere originally. The same source informs that, like the rest of the furnishings of the church, the stoup was removed at the time of the Revolution; in 1793, when the municipality returned the sacred objects back to the church, a certain F. Pretelle was compelled to return this piece; it had been used as a pigs' trough. [cf. Index entry for St-Vrain No. 2 for the baptismal font in this church] [Flohic ref.: 91040507]
