A double-basin limestone baptismal font described and illustrated in the Patrimoine des communes... Cherente-Maritime (2002, v. 2: 598); the font consists of an octagonal font with a smaller rounded appended basinette; the latter is roughly hemispherical and considerably larger than most of the ones found in French double-fonts; it is built of a single block of limestone. There are several plain mouldings on different parts of the font. This same source points out that the date inscribed on the font is partially erased: "1348 ou 1848?" [of the two dates the most likely is the first]. The main basin has a round hinged cover. [NB: cf. Index entry for another monolithic double-font of similar general structure, although of a much earlier date and hemispherical instead of octagonal, at Castello d'Empuries] [Flohic ref.: 17211102]
