Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Martin Gonzalez (1977). The font consists of a round basin decorated with a moulding at the upper rim, and an arcade of round arches resting on columns with capitals and bases below; the arcade does not go all the way around, and some of the motifs and figures are not inscribed in it; there are a variety of motifs, several of them foliated; there are also figures, two of which are male and armed with swords and shields bearing a cross on them; the spandrels of the arcade are populated with cherubs and foliage; a pilgrin shell is also visible on the side; a metal reinforcement band surrounds the upper basin sides, and the upper rim of the basin is badly damaged; the basin is raised on a round pedestal base with torsade motif and roll mouldings; the square lower base has floral motifs at the angles. The wooden cover is flat, round and plain; modern. Sancho Campo (2002) mentions a noteworthy baptismal font of the Romanesque period in this church, but the only font we have been able to locate appears to be the one described above, late-Medieval, perhaps 15th century, as suggested in Martin Gonzalez [NB: the original fabric of the church may indeed be Romanesque, but we have no information on its original font]. The entry for this church in the Enciclopedia del románico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/palencia_NOGALES_DE_PISUERGA.pdf] [accessed 17 May 2025] mentions its later font: "Interesante pila bautismal, gótica, tallada con arquillos y motivos florales, figurativos y escudos, datable en los comienzos del siglo XVI."
