Described and illustrated in the web site of Bocairent [www.bocairent.org] as a polygonal mounted baptismal font, formerly a public fountain, of the 15th century. An article by Josep A. Ferre i Puerto "L'aigua i els homes: una portada d'aigües a Bocairent, finals del s. XV" [orig. source not recorded] informs that it is not known whether the object was made in this town or elsewhere, although similar work appears on the town's shield the work of Pere Barberà; the same type of work was done also in La Llotja (La Lonja) by Vicent d'Oliva and Pere Capdevila and their workshop. Ferre i Puerto suggests that this fountain/font may have been the work of several people, each responsible for different parts. The base is a polygonal -either square or octagonal- Gothic pedesta. The sides of the basin -it appears to be pentagonal or hexagonal- have human figures or fabulous animals at the angles, whereas the centre of the sides is occupied alternatively by a coat of arms or a mascaron, a grotesque head (the mouth of one of these heads, somewhat resembling a characteristic portrayal of a Sea-god [Poseidon?], was the drainage hole, now plugged up). The lid is also polygonal [pentagonal?], a low-dome wooden cover.
