Described in Bilbao (1994) as a medieval baptismal font, a plain basin raised on a quadrangular base with mouldings at the arrises; on one side, an angel; on another, a lion; the two other sides are blank; Bilbao (ibid.) suggests an unfinished Tetramorphos. Noted and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del Románico en el País Vasco (vol. III, p. 1310). The font consists of a hemispherical basin that has been so throughly re-tooled that practically nothing remains of the old surface, except a few traces on the upper rim; it is raised on a crude irregular pedestal base of quadrangular shape, with two sides left rough and two sides carved; the carved sides are adjacent, which suggests the base was meant to be seen at the carved angle, with the rough sides to the back [NB: this, and the total absence of any other trace of wings makes Bilbao's claim of an unfinished Tetramorphos [cf. supra] totally unsound]; the carved sides start at the left angle of the panel occupied by a human figure; the left angle is carved in the shape of a crude tree or plant; inside the panel is a male bearded figure that appears to be holding objects in both hands, framed in a very irregular trefoiled arch or window; the right angle is carved with a long-haired human head on a round pillar or piping; the adjacent side to the right is framed in a similar trefoiled arch or window inside which is a crude rendition of an animal that suggests a rampant position; by a stretch of the imagination, and equally stretching a charitable inclination, one could say it suggests a rampant lion; the right angle of this side appears to have been carved with a plant or tree that would be similar to the one noted above, had it retained its upper branches. The whole base is a crude work that must be the output of a local not very talented sculptor. With all the re-tooling done on the basin block, there is nothing to match these two pieces, and it is quite likely that they did not belong together originally. The plugged hole(s) in the upper rim suggests an earlier font cover in place, but there is none present now [2015].
