view of church exterior - south portal

Described and illustrated in Bilbao (1994) as a medieval baptismal font; the plain basin is raised on an octagonal pedestal base ornamented with four grotesque heads (mascarons); the quadrangular lower base is decorated with diverse motifs at the angles. Bilbao (ibid.) cites entries in López de Guereñu and in Portilla. The font is described and partially illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/alava_POBES.pdf] [accessed 2 August 2024]: "Su interior acoge una pila bautismal con la copa lisa.
