Described and illustrated in Castro (1915), who dates it to the 12th or 13th century. There are many illustrations of this font and its details in López de Guereñu [https://photo.araba.eus/s/photoaraba/item/60729] [accessed 5 August 2024]. Described and illustrated in Bilbao (1994) as a 14th-century Gothic baptismal font, roughly chalice-shaped, a beautiful piece ornamented with a complex and varied iconographic program; the basin has short vertical sides and a broad chamfered underbowl; the sides of the basin provide the first register of ornamentation: an arcade of trefoil and round arches in which are found twenty-two figures: two of them Bilbao (ibid.) identifies as an Annunciation of the Syrian type; the others as Apostles, of which Peter and Paul are identified by the key and the sword respectively, as well as several prophets, who are identified by their phylacteries; the underbowl offers two registers; in the first register is an Agnus Dei with cross and banner; then a 6-petal flower in a circle; then a cockerel with the Moon below it; two rampant lions, one next to a human mask, protecting a fortress with three towers and as many doors [is this the symbol of Castile-Leon?; a pair of facing eagles, each with a rabbit caught in its claws; an eight-petal rosette in a circle; a round window with twelve inner arches at the centre of which is a bird; an odd-looking winged monster with equine head, two rows of teeth and a tail ending in an animal head; fleurdelysée Greeek cross [it appears rather treflée in the illustration] with trefoil and quatrefoil motifs around it; rosette motif. In the lower register of the underbowl Bilbao (ibid.) mentions motifs repeated from the other areas: stylised floral motifs, birds, foliage and rampant lions with fortress, again a possible emblem; the pedestal of the base is quadrangular with a round upper end; Bilbao (ibid.) describes the ornamentation on it as grapes and vine leaves; the lower part is moulded. Bilbao (ibid.) cites entries in the Catálogo Monumental de la Diócesis de Vitoria, in López de Guereñu and in Portilla. [NB: in her later work (1996) Bilbao mentions the presence of several Franciscans accompanying the Apostles on this font, probably referring to the friars that stand holding books in some the trefoiled arches around the upper register of the basin sides; they do show tonsured heads, one of these wearing the characteristic knotted cingulum of the Franciscans, whereas the figures that may be identified as Apostles and prophets do not show tonsures]. Described and partly illustrated in the entry for this church in the Enciclopedia del románico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/alava_OTO_GOIEN_HUETO_ARRIBA.pdf] [accessed 5 August 2024]: "Atesora el templo de Hueto Arriba una magnífica pila bautismal, completamente cubierta de decoración, que Micaela Portilla data en el siglo xiii, en la que aparecen conjugados, armoniosamente, motivos románicos y góticos. Este ejemplar ha sido calificado de excepcional, tanto por la calidad como por la cantidad de la ornamentación que la envuelve. Así, López de Ocáriz indica que posee la iconografía más rica y más compleja que podemos hallar en las pilas bautismales vascas. Consta de un simple basamento moldurado sobre el que se sitúa el pie, troncocónico irregular, decorado con hojas y frutos de vid. En la taza, semioval con prolongación superior cilíndrica, la decoración aparece dividida en tres niveles o franjas, y la mayoría de las figuras se hallan inscritas en sus respectivos cubículos. Mientras que en el nivel superior aparece una iconografía específicamente religiosa, en los dos inferiores predominan signos y tipologías de carácter variado. La franja superior consta de arquería creada por arcos trilobulados, inscritos en otros de medio punto, bajo los cuales se cobijan veinticuatro figuras que representan apóstoles, profetas, clérigos tonsurados, un sacerdote oficiante, frailes franciscanos [cf. supra] y la Anunciación. En la franja intermedia se disponen diversos motivos florales y figurativos, como el Agnus Dei, dos leones rampantes flanqueando una fortaleza de tres torres, dos águilas afrontadas que sujetan con sus respectivas garras sendos conejos, y un monstruo alado con grandes dientes. La tercera franja va distribuida en nueve casilleros, por bandas verticales que separan los motivos. Se repiten varias representaciones de la segunda: panela, flor de lis, castillo entre leones rampantes, óculo trilobulado, panela, flor de lis, castillo entre leones, ave y flor de lis."
