There are two different fonts labelled "Pila bautismal de la iglesia de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora de Contrasta" in Gerardo López de Guereñu [www.araba.eus/arabadok/search?q=*%3A*&start=0&rows=12&sort=msstored_title+asc&norm=albala&fq=mssearch_institutions&fv=Iglesia+de+Nuestra+Señora+de+la+Anunciación+(Contrasta%2C+Álava)&fo=and] [accessed 24 November 2020]: One of them [ref.: ATHA-DAF-GUE-23146] [old ref.: Nº de identificación: 23146 Duplicado del negativo: R. 296 / F. 5 / N.23 Duplicado del positivo: 13311] in Nº de identificación: 23146 Duplicado del negativo: R. 296 / F. 5 / N.23 / Duplicado del positivo: 13311] is illustrated with an image [ref.: ATHA-DAF-GUE-23146] that shows a font consisting of a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with diagonal ribbed pattern raised on a short circular pedestal base; an accompanying descripton note [Edukiari buruzko oharrak] reads: "Desde este perfil se aprecia una gran copa de piedra sobre pedestal, algo irregular y basculada hacia un lado. Su decoración son gallones que, partiendo de la base, se abren hacia el borde de la taza". This is the baptismal font in the parish church of Contrasta.
The second baptismal font documented in the same source by López de Guereñu also under the heading of "Pila bautismal de la iglesia de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora de Contrasta" [ref.: ATHA-DAF-GUE-8380 [...] Nº de identificación: 8380 Duplicado del positivo: 13342 Positivo original: 8380] and accompanied by the description note [Edukiari buruzko oharrak] "Vista frontal de la pila medieval; se decora con fuertes gallones que la abrazan y que terminan en motivos radiales biselados. En uno de los costados presenta una flor de lis en relieve" is actually the baptismal in the nearby ermita, not the one in the parish church. Bilbao (1994: 114) describes as a baptismal font of the Gothic period, the basin ornamented with ribbed pattern and a fleurdelysée cross in relief. Bilbao (ibid.) appears to have used López de Guereñu's entry of 1940 [cf. supra] and cites an entry in the Catálogo Monumental de la Diócesis de Vitoria. [NB: the font in the nearby rural chapel [ermita] is entered in BSI as Contrasta No. 2]
