Described in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a 13th-century baptismal font: "it is a rude stone bowl, but has a Purbeck marble shaft. Round the top of the bowl is an inscription, of which only the words 'Hic sistat' can now be discerned". The Churches Conservation Trust entry for St. Mary & St. Lawrence [http://www.visitchurches.org.uk/content.php?nID=11&churchID=279] [accessed 18 December 2008] notes: "The font and other features are earlier than the 14th century chancel". The font consists of a cauldron-shaped basin decorated with a roll moulding below the upper rim, raised on a cylindrical pedestal with several mouldings, and a rectangular plinth. The last two parts may be later additions. The wooden cover is round and flat, with metal decoration and ring handle; appears modern.
