There are two entries for Wickhamford [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP0641/wickhamford/] [accessed 4 November 2014], one of which reports a priest in it but not a church, though there probably was one there. Noake (1854) writes of two fonts in this church, the earlier of which:: "The old font (a plain circular one) is turned upside down in the chancel, and is made to serve as a seat." In his later 'Guide' (1868) Noake reports: "the old circular font has been restored, mainly through the exertions of the incumbent, after being many years turned upside down and made to do duty as a seat in the chancel." Miller (1890) writes: "The font stands in the place of the old font which was removed to Ombersley by Lord Sandys." Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Norman period. 'A Visitors Guide to St John the Baptist Church, Wickhamford' [www.stmichaelsbroadway.org/stjohns21.html] [accessed 29 June 2008] informs: "Rev T. H. Hunt, who came as Vicar in 1852 […] restored the old plain stone Font to its proper use having found it in the Chancel, up-turned and used as a seat". Pevsner (1968) notes: "Font. With bits of C17 woodwork stuck on".
