Font Notes:
There are two entries for Bretforton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP0943/bretforton/] [accessed 4 November 2014], one of which, in the lordship of the Abbey St. Mary at of Evesham, reports a church in it. The Ecclesiologist (August 1866, no. 175: 249) includes a report of a June 26 excursion by the Worcester Diocesan Architectural Society in which the church at Bretforton St. Leonard's was visted and the font noted: "a plain circular bowl of Norman date". Miller (1890) reports: "The font is Norman and cylindrical". The font here is listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a being from the Norman period. Brooks & Pevsner (2007) note: "Plain Norman, with cover dated 1721." The CRSBI (2014) notes that "The stem is possibly later, but the bowl and base are, perhaps, 12thc."
