There are three entries for Cubbington [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP3468/cubbington/] [accessed 27 January 2015], neither of which mention cleric or church in it. Cox & Harvey (1907) lis a baptismal font of the Norman period in this church. The Victoria County History (Warwick, vol. 6, 1951) notes: "Cubbington was at first a chapelry of Leek Wootton, and so granted to Kenilworth priory at its foundation in 1122 by Geoffrey de Clinton [...] The earliest part of the existing fabric is the south arcade of the nave, dating from the early 12th century. [...] An old font, of flower-pot shape, on a modern base, standing in the tower, may be of 12th-century date." [The church interior plan in this source shows the font approximately beneath the tower]. Described and illustrated in the CRSBI (2015): "Only the font bowl is original; the circular plinth with the usual platform extension and the base with hollow chamfer and stringcourse of mouchettes are later. The limestone font bowl is tapered with a plain surface. The interior is lead-lined, and where the upper periphery has been damaged in two places, the lead follows the damaged contour. There is a single central water outlet." Described and illustrated in the Parish web site [www.stmaryscubbington.org.uk/architecture.html] [accessed 20 March 2009], the text apparently copied from the CRSBI entry.
