Noted in Schlunk (1931), (1945) and (1954). Noted and ilustrated in Pérez de Barradas (1932). Described and illustrated in Palol (1967), after Pérez de Barradas: the sunken font is of a type common in North Africa, in which the inner shape of the well appears to include a square into a cruciform shape; in the interior, two sets of two steps exist on opposite sides; the basin or piscina is romboid-shape on the outside; there is a smaller square basin to the side of the larger one, which Palol (ibid.) suggests -as do other sources- as a receptacle for the baptism of children [others see these additional receptacles as water tanks or ablution wells]; the smaller well has an inner step as well as a drainahge hole; the whole piece, which includes both fonts or wells, is made of brick covered in opus signinum. Palol dates the basilica to the second half of the 6th century. Noted and illustrated in Khatchatrian (1982). Noted in Ferguson (2009). The baptistery is located in a sacristy, thus allowing for access of the catecumen without direct entry into the church. The church is surrounded in a Visigothic nechropolis. [The local Asociación Cilniana reports in the summer 2002 issue of the BOLETIN ROSA VERDE on-line journal that the font, as well as the whole site, is in serous danger of collapsing due to the negligence of the local authorities - images in this journal show vegetation sprouting from the sides, damaged walls, etc.]
