Church Notes: The dedication of the church to St. Pancras does not specify whether "of Rome" or "of Taormine". In his Dedications & Patrons of English Churches (1914: 134-135) Bond lists the only eight churches dedicated to Pancras of Rome and this one is not one of them.
There are two entries for Bagborough [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/ST1733/bagborough/] [accessed 4 April 2018], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Cox & Harvey (1907) list a baptismal font of the Decorated period here. The font and its fancy modern cover by Sir John Ninian Comper [1864-1960, Gothic revivalist architect] are illustrated in the town's web site [http://www.gb42.com/church.html] [accessed 30 September 2009]. The font appears plain, an octagonal basin with chamfered underbowl, on a plain octagonal stem and a splaying lower base of the same shape; on a modern (?) octagonal plinth. The cover is octagonal with gilded spire of openwork; around the lower sides are painted the Instruments of the Passion as well as the arms of the Dremel family said to have commissioned the font cover. The font is not mentioned in Pevsner (1958) but the font cover is. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: ST1684833704] does not mention a font in it.
