Font Notes:
Noted in Cox & Harvey (1907) and in Wade & Wade (1929) as a baptismal font of the Norman period. Described in Pevsner (1958): "Circular, Norman, with coarse blank arches, their shafts plaited. Saltire cross frieze above." The National Monument Record, English Heritage [IoE no. 265562] [http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/details/default.aspx?id=265562] [accessed 12 April 2008] reports: "Norman font with arcade of twisted columns and frieze of saltire crosses above." The cylindrical base has damage to its sides: one of the columns of the arcade is broken off and missing; there appears to be a whole on the side [was this basin ever used as a trough as well?]; the underbowl is moulded; raised on a modern pedestal base, perhaps 19th-century. The round flat wooden cover is probably Victorian as well.
