Described and illustrated in Phelps (1836): "The font is Anglo-Norman, coeval with the church". Noted in the Handbook for travellers… (1869): "a Norman font". Wilson's Gazetteer (1870-1872) reports "an old font" in this church. Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) and in Wade & Wade (1929) as a baptismal font of the Norman period. Described in Pevsner (1958): "Norman. Square bowl with thin decorated flutes on all sides." The Victoria County History (Somerset, vol. 7, 1999) notes that "[t]he font, the south doorway, and the proportions of the nave and chancel suggest a church of the 12th century". The Parish Council web site [http://www.penselwood.parishcouncil.net/church.php] [accessed 2 April 2008] notes: "The Norman font has a square bowl with fluted sides".
