On-site notes: baptismal font of the 16th century (?) located in the Capilla de San Antonio, in the metropolitan cathedral of Seville [the notice beside the font informs that the font was installed at the present site in 1656, but does give its origin]; this elegant Renaissance font is made of white marble and consists of a shallow hemispherical basin mounted on a cylindrical pedestal base [the lower part of the base stands in polygonal recessed niche below ground level where the hidden lights provide the font with a very striking illumination]; the narrow external sides of the basin are decorated with a vine in very low relief, just incised, all around; the ubnderbowl is decorated with a pattern of concave ribs, with foliage motifs in some of the spandrels; the stem of the base has a row of standing angels showing their wings and holding hands, framed between several roll mouldings. [cf. Index entry for Sevilla No. 3 for a vessel now serving as water fountain in the cathedral's Patio de los Naranjos [Orange-tree courtyard], said to have been originally a Visigothic baptismal font or a tub from the Roman termae [both claims equally far-fetched]]
