Described in Glynne (1877): "The font is Perpendicular, has octagonal bowl with shileds and flowers, on stem of like form." Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) and in Newman (1980) as a baptismal font of the Perpendicular period [NB: C&H have 'Appledon']. Illustrated in the Roughwood British Churches Album [http://www.roughwood.net/ChurchAlbum/Kent/Appledore/Appledore-St-Peter-St-Paul.htm] [accessed 13 February 2010]. The octagonal basin has plain sides but charged shield(s) [one appears to have a saltire cross on it] and floral motif(s) on the underbowl chamfer; on a plain octagonal stem and a like shaped moulded lower base; octagonal plinth with kneeling stone. The octagonal wooden cover is flat and has a knob finial; 19th-century?
