Described by Rodríguez Montañés in Soria románica (2000) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period decorated with a scene of dogs chasing/hunting deer. García Gómez (2007) notes a series of fonts in the area that share a common charateristic in their decoration, round arch-heads with fitting ribs inside (fonts at Blacos, Garray, Muriel de la Fuente, San Esteban de Gormaz and Zayuelas de Soria). Listed as Romanesque in the Enciclopedia del Románico en Castilla y León. Soria, vol. 2, p, 689 [www.romanicodigital.com/cedar/pila-bautismal-27603.aspx] [accessed 2 June 2019]. The font here, which is damaged and apparently affected by a chemical stone disease, consists of a large roughly hemispherical basin and a round squat base; there is a roll moulding at the upper rim, now mostly crumbling away; below it runs an acanthus vine, populated in one spot by a scen, said to be hunting, but too damage and corroded noow for any certainty; the blind arcade of round arches that covers the sides has the bottom of the columns continue down the underbowl. The upper surface of the basin has a groove all around, and remains of metal staples from an old cover, but there is no cover present. The visitor who photographed it in July 2018 remarked that the 'baptistery' appeared to be full of agrcultural debris and the font just crumbling away.
