No entry for High Halden found in the Domesday survey. Described in Glynne (1877): "The font has a plain square bowl on a cylindrical stem, with four legs,without caps or bases, set on a square plinth." Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Norman period. Noted in Newman (1980): "Font. Plain, probably of the C13, but still standing on its original plinth, which is an integral part of the pre-Perp[endicular] arcade's W[est] pier." The web site of the Higham Village History Group [www.highamvillagehistory.org.uk] notes the font, "dating back to the Norman period [...] stands on a short central trunk, with slender columns supporting the four corners of the lead-lined bowl."
