There are several entries for Dover [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TR3241/dover/] [accessed 30 May 2024], one of which reports three churches in it. Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Norman period. Listed in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble, "bowl with two round headed panels on each face, probably recut". Noted in Newman (1976): Font. Norman. Square Purbeck marble bowl, as renewed as the church" [NB: Newman refers to the 1843 rebuilding of St Mary's by J.C & C. Buckler]. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TR3192041516] notes: "Parish Church. Built on the site of some Roman Baths and a Saxon church on the site mentioned in Domesday Book, but the oldest part of the present structure is Norman. Early C12 [...] Norman octagonal Purbeck stone font bowl but remainder renewed."
