García Gómez (2007) states that the font in Pozuel de Ariza is originally from Monteagudo de las Vicarias, Soria province [NB: the Castillo de La Raya is located in Monteagudo de las Vicarías. According to the Castillos de Soria web site [www.castillosdesoria.com], the baptismal font now at the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Pozuel de Ariza is said to have originated in the parish church of Castillo de la Raya, where it served as boundary marker between Castile and Aragon. The name "la Raya", i.e., the line or border] is appropriate since both Castillo de la Raya and Pozuel de Ariza are, even now, near the border between the provinces of Soria (Castile) and Zaragoza (Aragon). The font is said to have served in the original church as boundary marker between the two -then- kingdoms. The web site at Pozuel de Ariza [usuarios.lycos.es/pozuel/] shows an image of the font: it is a hemispherical basin ornamented with crude ribbed pattern; it stands on a column that does not appear to be the original base.
