Font Notes:
There is an entry for Winchfield [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SU7653/winchfield/] [accessed 7 August 2018] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Cox & Harvey (1907) list a baptismal font of the Norman period in this church. The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 4, 1911) notes: "The nave and chancel are of mid-12th-century date, while the tower was added a little later, probably shortly after their completion. [...] The font has an old octagonal bowl of Purbeck marble with plain sunk round-headed arcading. It is of late 12th-century date, but has been patched and scraped. The stem is modern." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SU7683854100] reports "a Norman font" in it. Listed in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble; "bowl with round headed panels on each face; the support is modern".
