Font Notes:
There are three entries for Boarhunt and [North] Boarhunt in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/XX0000/boarhunt-and-north-boarhunt/] [accessed 21 June 2018]; one of them mentions a church in it. Cox & Harvey (1907) list a baptismal font of the Saxon period in this church: "massive tub font, 3 feet in diameter". The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 3, 1908) notes: "At the time of the Domesday Survey there was a church in Boarhunt, [...] which probably became at a later date the parish church of West Boarhunt as it was called. [...] The church of St. Nicholas [...] is a very valuable specimen of a small pre-Conquest building, preserving its main dimensions unchanged. [...] The font, at the south-west of the nave, has a plain round tapering bowl without a shaft or any detail to suggest its approximate date." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SU6096909396] reports a "Stone tub font" without further details. The Victorian renovation of 1853 did not change the basic character of the church. There is a holy-water stoup to the left of the old piscina; it consists of a quadrangular basin wall-mounted and supported below by a sculpture of a human head; date unknown.
