There is an entry for Shenfield in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TQ6095/shenfield/] [accessed 17 June 2019], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Cox & Harvey (1907) list a baptismal font of the late Perpendicular period here. Described and illustrated in the Parish web site [http://www.stmaryschurch-shenfield.org.uk/guide.php] [accessed 17 September 2010]: "The font, made of stone from Normandy, was installed in 1390. One of our Victorian Rectors moved it out in favour of a new Italian marble font, and it was later taken to a church in Bucks. However, in 1949, it was restored and the interloper itself given away. A 'green man' can be seen carved on the font". Cf. entry for Marsworth in the Victoria County History (Buckingham, vol. 3, 1925) for the font originally from Shenfield, described in Marsworth. SEAX [http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/result_details.asp?GDH=1&DocID=65831&Reference=D/F%208/395] [accessed 17 September 2010] lists a holding for a 1907 'design sketch' of a font cover by Chancellor and Son [well-known architect and church renovation company active in the Victorian period]. Bettley & Pevsner (2007) date the font to the late 14th century and name of Marsworth All Saints', F.W. Ragg, who "restored the bowl and made (or designed) the base".
