There is an entry for Bulphan [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TQ6385/bulphan/] [accessed 16 March 2024]; it mentions neither priest nor church in it. Cox & Harvey (1907) note a baptismal font of the Decorated period here. Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, Essex (1916-1923): "Font: In churchyard, by lych-gate, circular stem with moulded edge." [cf. Index entry for Langdon Hills, Essex, for information on a font originally from Bulphan]. [NB: the Bulphan Parish web site [www.hobnob.org.uk/inchurch.htm] shows the baptistry at St. Mary's with an octagonal mounted font in it but does give the details of the font]. [NB: the RCHM report [supra] is consistent with a communication that Rev. Littlehales had removed the old font to a site in the churchyard near the lychgate prior to 27 November 1874; an entry in the Register of Baptims in Bulphan for the latter date notes" "Re-opening of the Church. New font first used. W.G.L." -- sometime after that the old font was moved to Langdon Hills -- cf. Index entry].
