Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the 15th century, the Perpendicular period [NB: C&H appear to indicate that it was engraved by Paley; Paley's book does not contain an entry for this font]. The Victoria County History (Essex, vol. 7, 1978) notes: "There was a church at South Ockendon by the reign of William I" [i.e., 1066+], and the present church has remains of the 12th century, but the font and most other furnishings are identified as belonging to the 1866 renovation of this church.
